It's no surprise that Bolton defender Marcos Alonso will have many suitors following a hugely impressive season for the Championship club, especially since the arrival of Dougie Freedman.
The 22-year-old Spaniard is out of contract in the summer, and reports from Italy claim Alonso is to undergo a medical at Fiorentina on Friday, with an official announcement expected soon from the Italian top-flight outfit.
Fiorentina finished fourth in Serie A this season, narrowly missing out on a Champions League place, and will be hoping Alonso can add that extra depth defensively, whilst offering vision and a steely bite going forward.
Bolton failed to achieve instant promotion to the Premier League this summer, missing out on a play-off place on the final day of the season after failing to beat Blackpool - and the offer of Europa League football next season could be too good to turn down.
Alonso signed for Bolton for £2.2m in 2010 from Real Madrid, and has made 46 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.
Alonso has a strong sporting heritage, as the third generation footballer in the family line: his grandfather played for Real Madrid for the best portion of a decade, whilst his father had spells at Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Both made appearances for the Spain national team.
Freedman has used Alonso mainly at left-back this season, although the player can also operate at left midfield or in the middle.
