Chuck Norris backs Tim Tebow for NFL job

If Chuck Norris played in the NFL he probably wouldn't wear pads. But it turns out the ultimate tough guy would give the much-maligned Tim Tebow a job.

The martial arts specialist has backed the released New York Jets quarterback to flourish in the league, despite no NFL team showing an interest in the former-Florida star since he was let go earlier this off-season.

Tebow has had offers to compete for a starting spot in the Canadian Football League, and been advised to try his hand in the Arena Football League.

But Norris thinks he can still cut it in the NFL, and backed the one-time Heisman trophy winner to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Writing in his column for the nonprofit website Newsbusters, Norris hails Tebow as a UCP - an ultimate clutch player.

"Tebow is a player who rises to the occasion and delivers big in critical moments," writes Norris. "He reminds me of myself when I used to compete in martial arts.

"I would spar with my black belts in class, and sometimes they would outscore me. Yet in the tournaments, I would defeat them. My students used to ask me, 'Why is it that we can contend equally against you in class but can't beat you in the tournaments?'

"My answer was always the same: 'When it counts, I rise to the occasion."

Norris believes Tebow is one of the most determined and "inspiring athletes ever to play the game of football."

The quarterback has been linked with the Jaguars, who struggled at the position with Blaine Gabbert last season.

But a portion of the fan base clearly doesn't want to sign the player, even starting a website called '', and the Jaguars have said they have no intention of signing Tebow.

The former-Jet has a standing offer to play in the Arena Football League with the Philadelphia Soul, but he's yet to decide on his next career move.
