An 89th minute Arjen Robben winner broke Borussia Dortmund hearts and sealed a 2-1 victory for Bayern Munich in the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.
Jupp Heynckes watched his side edge ahead thanks to a Mario Mandzukic tap-in 15 minutes into the second half, but Ilkay Gundogan quickly cancelled out that advantage from the spot.
But Robben – who endured a torrid time in the same fixture last season against Chelsea – snatched a late winner, darting through the middle of the Dortmund defence to slide the ball past a helpless Roman Weidenfeller.
Dortmund had started the stronger, pegging Bayern back and forcing Manuel Neuer into saves from Marco Reus, Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszcyzkowski.
But the Bundesliga champions had chances of their own, and opened the scoring in the 60th minute, Robben breaking the offside trap before cutting back for Manduzkic to bundle home from five yards.
The lead lasted just seven minutes. Reus – Dortmund’s brightest spark throughout – latched onto a through ball before a crutal check-block by Dante halted his progress.
The Brazilian international had been booked earlier in the first half for a similar body check on the winger, but the referee decided against a second yellow this time. Gundogan calmy sent Neuer the wrong way to level the scores.
Lewandowski then had the ball in the back of the net via a stunning 25-yard volley, but that was correctly ruled out for a handball in the build-up.
Nevan Subotic bravely cleared off the goal-line from a Thomas Muller shot as Bayern pushed for a winner. A winner they eventually got in the penultimate minute of normal time.
Robben had squandered several chances in the first-half when well-placed, but buried Champions League demons past and present with a slide-rule finish after Franck Ribery had scuffed a back-heel into his path.
It was cruel on Dortmund and Klopp, but Bayern Munich have been the continent’s best team this season. And for that reason alone, worthy winners on a fantastic night of football at Wembley.
