Barcelona could be about to test the resolve of Chelsea to hang onto their best players by putting in a bid for Stamford Bridge star Juan Mata.

According to El Economista, the Camp Nou club have been mightily impressed with the Spain international during his time playing in the Premier League.

Mata has been a revelation since joining Chelsea from Valencia in 2011 and has become one of the key players in the Blues squad.

This report from Spain claims Barcelona’s football directors are keen to have more effective support for star man Lionel Messi and feel Mata would be perfect to play on either flank.

Chelsea are unlikely to be keen to sell one of their most prized assets, but the El Economia report claims the presence of a number of his international teammates could be a persuading factor for Mata.

The 25-year-old was Chelsea’s outstanding player as they finished third in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals and assisting another 12.
