Michael Essien will follow Jose Mourinho back to Chelsea this summer, according to reports.

The 30-year-old Ghanaian international has been on a season-long loan with ‘the special one’ at Real Madrid, but has a year left to run on his deal at Stamford Bridge should he return to the club this summer.

And, The Sun claims Essien – who signed for Chelsea under Mourinho back in 2005 – is ready to follow the man he calls ‘daddy’ back to west London.

“We have a very good relationship. I understand him very well. Daddy knows I can play in any position he wants me to, except goalkeeper,” said Essien, according to the paper.

Essien has played 28 times for Los Blancos this season, but failed to secure a major trophy for the La Liga outfit during a season that Mourinho described as one of his worst in management.

Chelsea, meanwhile, won the Europa League under Rafa Benitez, and also secured a top four finish in the Premier League. Mourinho would look to build on that success if he does return to the club this summer.
