Konami have released the first official trailer for Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 just days after EA Sports offered a quick glimpse at FIFA 14.

Their 43 second clip is in black and white, with the prominent PES logo on a red and white ball.

In truth, the video shows little in comparison to FIFA’s first look, which showcased Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta in a Barcelona-Atletico Madrid match-up.

There are no big names in the Pro Evolution Soccer version either, but there are shots of the crowd, an aerial tussle and a slide tackle. There is also some fine skills on display, with plenty of focus on the boots rather than specific players.

With the release of the Playstation Four and Xbox One around the corner, it promises to be a big year for the world of football computer games.

And, after this first look at PES, the battle between the game’s two big guns could be even greater.
