Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has welcomed the prospect of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama joining the Gunners this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with a move for the Kenyan for some time and Wanyama’s former coach claimed earlier this week that Emirates Stadium officials had been in touch with Celtic already.

Arsenal are expected to spend significantly this summer with funds reportedly set aside for a defensive midfielder and the 21-year-old one of the options.

While he insists he has no idea whether it will happen or not, Ramsey believes Wanyama would be a great addition to the Gunners squad for next season.

“Of course, I don’t have a say on who joins us at the Emirates but if at all Arsenal get to sign Victor Wanyama, I will be the first to welcome him,” the Wales international said while on a trip to Kenya.

“I have watched him play for Celtic, I watched him score against Barcelona and I think he is a great player. Whether he will join us is for other people to decide.

“He name has been all over the British press. He is one player I have read many clubs in England are chasing and I have no doubt he has great talent if top clubs in England are interested in him.”

Arsenal are not the only team interested in Wanyama, as fellow Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Stoke City are also reported to be keen.

However, you would expect the lure of playing for a far more prestigious club would make Arsenal clear favourites out of the trio to sign the defensive midfielder.

Wanyama was not only impressive in the memorable win over Barcelona in the Champions League group stages, he was pivotal in Celtic reaching the knockout stages for only the third time in their history.
