Chelsea are set to hijak Arsenal with a £23million bid for Stevan Jovetic, according to reports.
The Times claims Jose Mourinho hopes to deliver a major blow to old rival Arsene Wenger with his first major act since returning to west London, and lure the player to Stamford Bridge rather than the Emirates Stadium.
The report goes on to claim ‘the special one’ has told the Chelsea board he wants to make the player his opening addition in the transfer window, and that talks have already opened between the two parties.
Despite the €30million minimum fee release clause in his Fiorentina contract, Blues sources are confident they can complete a deal for the 23-year-old.
Mourinho has been linked with a number of players since returning to the King’s Road to work under Roman Abramovich, with Edin Dzeko another reported target.
However, Jovetic now appears to be the man in Chelsea’s sights, with the Montenegro international informing his representatives that he would prefer to join the Blues over the Gunners.
