Jose Mourinho is planning a move to take Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso with him to Chelsea, according to the Telegraph.

Mourinho was confirmed as new Chelsea manager last week, and since then numerous players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Telegraph, Alonso, who has one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu, could make the move to west London to re-join his former manager.

The Spaniard, who made his name with Liverpool, underwent groin surgery in Munich recently but is expected to be fit for the start of the 2013/14 – when he could be wearing the blue of Chelsea.

According to the Telegraph, Alonso was highly-rated by Mourinho during his time in Spain, and the ‘Special One’ wants to re-model his attack around the former Liverpool player.

A move for Alonso could be just the start for Mourinho as goes about re-shaping Chelsea’s squad ahead of his first season back in charge.

The Telegraph claim the Blues will try to secure the signing of Edinson Cavani from Napoli, and also try to land Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina.

Alonso has been linked with a move back to Liverpool in the past but was quick to play down speculation about a return to Anfield when asked recently.

“Of course I'm going to be here next season," said Alonso last month.
