Newcastle United defender Curtis Good is hopeful he can catch Alan Pardew's eye during pre-season this year.
The 20-year old arrived at St. James Park from Melbourne Heat last summer but spent most of last season at Capital One Cup finalists Bradford City.
Good is feeling more prepared going into this pre-season and is hopeful that he can impress Pardew.
He told The Chronicle: “The biggest thing is to start well in pre-season with Newcastle and move a bit closer to the start of it all.
“Last year I came a month into it. I was in at the end of July so I felt I was behind after that.
“So this year I am looking forward to coming back refreshed after spending some time at home.”
The centre back only made nine appearances for Bradford whilst on loan but produced a couple of impressive displays their Capital One cup run as he helped them reach the final.
Alan Pardew acknowledged these displays and joked that Good's name should be changed to 'Curtis Better.' However, he started the Capital One Cup final and was substituted at half-time with the team trailing 2-0.
But Good is pleased with compliments from the manager and is confident he can seize the chance if a starting place for Newcastle came his way.
“It is reassuring to get a few compliments from the manager. You just have to keep on doing that and progressing well.”
“If the opportunity comes then I will be ready for it – hopefully as a centre-back."
Good joined Newcastle on a six-year deal for a reported £365,000 from Melbourne Heat where he made 25 appearances. He will be playing in the Under-20 World Cup this summer in Turkey representing Australia.
