Luke Donald has moved up one place to sixth in golf's world rankings ahead of this week's US Open tournament at Merion which starts on Thursday.

The 35-year-old warmed up for the second major of the 2013 season with a strong finish at the Memorial Tournament, where he carded 13 birdies in the final two rounds at Muirfield Village, to finish in tied-21st place.

It was the perfect response after the disappointment of failing to make the cut at the BMW PGA Championship event at Wentworth last month, which saw the Englishman's chances of a hat-trick of victories on the European Tour's flagship event fall by the wayside.

Donald has recorded two top-ten finishes in seven starts on the PGA Tour this year which is enough to lift him above seventh placed Brandt Snedeker in golf's world top ten rankings.

The top five players; Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar and Justin Rose remain unchanged.
