Highly-rated Michigan point guard Trey Burke hopes his rise to prominence will afford him the opportunity to meet former Sacramento Kings great Chris Webber, himself a former Wolverine.

Burke inspired the Wolverines to their best March Madness performance in 20 years as they reached the National Championship game, where Michigan were ultimately defeated by the Louisville Cardinals.

Webber, meanwhile, was a star of Michigan's Fab Five from 1991-93 and went on to star for the Kings in the NBA - playing for them for seven years after spells with the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards.

The 40-year-old, who was the first pick of the 1993 NBA draft, attended this year's NCAA championship game to lend his support to the Wolverines, although Burke was unable to meet his hero that day.

Burke, 20, now hopes he will have the chance to speak to Webber before he himself is drafted into the NBA, and knows any advice from the power forward will be invaluable as he seeks to become a successful professional.

"I’ve never talked to him personally," Burke told Sacramento Kings blog

“I know if I was to see him, we would have a great relationship, great conversation."

He added: "It was great to see him at the national championship game.

"And I’m sure I’ll see him soon and be able to get some insight on the league and next level."
