Barcelona are targeting a move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Catalan club have already signed Brazilian starlet Neymar this summer and are said to be ready to bolster their forward line even further.

According to Sport, Barcelona have set their sights on Torres to help lessen the burden on Lionel Messi's shoulders, and will offer €20 million and a four-year deal to tempt him back to Spain. The report adds that Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski is Barcelona's first-choice, but that a move for Torres is being seriously considered.

Although Torres has never truly shown his best form since signing for Chelsea in 2011 for a British record £50 million, Chelsea are unlikely to be willing to let him leave at such a loss.

The Spaniard, who is contracted with Chelsea until 2016, showed glimpses of his best to help Chelsea win the Europa League last season, but new boss Jose Mourinho was less than convincing when asked if the striker would remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.

“Fernando is a Chelsea player with a contract," he said on Monday. "He’s more than happy to stay and work hard, and I think he deserves that respect from me, especially, and also the club.

"That respect starts by speaking with him face to face and deciding what is the best for all of us. If the best for all of us is for Fernando to stay, let’s help him and try to get the best out of him.”

Sport claim that Torres is liked by Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, who tried to sign him while he was still at Atletico Madrid before opting to target Samuel Eto'o.

Should Torres arrive at the Camp Nou it was cast doubt over the future of David Villa once more.

The Spanish striker has been linked with a move to either Tottenham or Arsenal, and has said he will make a decision over his future after the Confederations Cup.
