Five-star linebacker recruit Matthew Thomas will honour his commitment to Florida State and is set to report to campus on Saturday, according to ESPN sources.

Thomas reiterated his desire to play football with the Seminoles next season after rumours circulated suggesting he was considering switching his commitment to USC or Georgia.

But Thomas released a statement on this week re-affirming his pledge to play for Florida State.

On Monday, Thomas's father had revealed his son was keen to play for USC, while earlier reports in the Miami Herald quoted the player as saying he wanted to switch to USC or Georgia.

ESPN reports the Thomas family did ask Florida State from a release from the scholarship at one stage, but the Seminoles refused without a valid reason.

His mother reportedly refused to sign Thomas's National Letter of Intent to attend USC - the player's first choice - leading the linebacker to sign with Florida State.

Despite the rumours he would switch, ultimately the risk of losing a year of eligibility and a year without football led Thomas to reconsider and accept his place with the Seminoles.

The report claims Thomas told head coach Jimbo Fisher on Tuesday night that he's committed to the school, and he could attend campus as early as this weekend.
