Sunderland set to sign French starlet

Le Havre midfielder El-Hadji Ba has confirmed, through French newspaper L'Equipe, that he has agreed a three-year contract with Sunderland.

The 20-year old will become Sunderland's fourth Bosman signing of the summer. Manager Paolo Di Canio has already recruited defenders Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite and midfielder Cabral.

Although official confirmation from Sunderland or Le Havre has not been announced, Ba revealed all himself and is expected to be at the Stadium of Light next season.

Ba is a central midfielder and is a France Under-20 international, having made three appearances. It is rumoured that he could begin in Sunderland's Under-21 development squad for next season.

He made only 12 appearances for French Ligue 2 side Le Havre last season, scoring one goal.

The midfielder's contract is up at the French club but Sunderland will be required to pay compensation expected to be in the region of £250,000 as the player is so young.

He was reported to have agreed a deal to move to Tottenham before making his Le Havre debut in January 2012, but a deal couldn't be struck.
