Wesley Sneijder has been backed by Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal to sign for Chelsea.
Any potential deal could be worth close to £13m for the Galatasaray playmaker - according to the Turkish club - who would bolster an already talented attacking force at Stamford Bridge.
“Sneijder to Chelsea is just a rumour at the moment, but it would be much easier for me to keep an eye on his progress if he were to make the move to Chelsea,” Van Gaal commented.
The move is feasible, as new Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho developed a strong connection with the Dutch midfielder while coaching at Inter Milan.
Van Gaal also stated that it would be much easier to know about Sneijder's progress, with the 2014 World Cup finals one year away, if he was playing in the Premier League.
Furthermore, Van Gaal stated the Sneijder had a positive reaction to handing over the captain’s armband to fellow Dutchman Robin van Persie of Manchester United.
Van Persie’s superior goalscoring ability and developing experience aids his case as a captain and an influential figure on the pitch.
“I had a good talk about it with Wesley and he’s dealing with the situation pretty well,” stated the Netherlands boss. “I have no doubt that everybody will help him.”
