Barcelona are ready to launch an audacious bid to land highly promising Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

According to the Daily Mail, the Camp Nou club scouts were watching as the Blues took on Manchester City in a recent friendly in New York and were mightily impressed.

Loftus-Cheek recently came into the spotlight after it was revealed that Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a new contract for him that would be worth £1.7million before his 20th birthday.

Many claimed this to be excessive for a 17-year-old but Chelsea had their hand forced by lots of interested parties, one of which was Barcelona.

It now appears as though Stamford Bridge officials may have more work on their hands keeping hold of the talented midfielder, as the report claims Barcelona haven’t been put off by the bumper new deal.

Loftus-Cheek was born in south London and has been on Chelsea’s books since he was seven years old.

He is a tall, powerful box-to-box midfielder and has been tipped for great things by many connected with Chelsea and the England youth set-up.
