Spurs plot summer swoop for Italian international

Tottenham Hotspur are pursuing the signature of Italian international left-back Domenico Criscito, according to reports.

The Daily Star claims Andre Villas-Boas is interested in bringing the defender to White Hart Lane amidst uncertainty over the future of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce.

It’s not just Spurs who are keen on Criscito however, with Fiorentina eager to bring the Zenit St Petersburg star back to his homeland.

However, agent Andrea D'Amico insists his client is loving life in Russia, and is hoping to continue ‘his experience’ in the country after moving from Genoa in 2011.

"Those who have linked Croscito with Fiorentina have only spread rumours which are without foundation," D'Amico told Lady Radio in Italy.

"There is no truth in them whatsoever. Domenico will continue his experience in Russia, where he is very happy."

Criscito, who has spent time with Juventus during his professional career, would add some much-needed depth to the Tottenham Hotspur backline.

If Assou-Ekotto does leave Spurs, then Villas-Boas will be particularly stretched in the left-sided position, although plenty of work will need to be done to persuade the 26-year-old to leave his current home.
