Robert Lewandowski will not be joining Manchester United, Chelsea or Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund's general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed.

The Polish international has made his desire to leave Dortmund clear - however despite his contract expiring next year the German club remain adamant that he won't be sold.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old.

Lewandowski is believed to have already agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich but having already confirmed the striker won't be allowed to follow Mario Gotze to Bavaria, Watzke said today that a move abroad is also out of the question.

"Robert will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season," he told Germany's Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. "We need this security to be able to plan (for the season)".

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Lewandowski, who scored four goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, in the past.

The Red Devils appeared to have rivals for his signature in the form of Chelsea, who have so far been frustrated in their attempts to lure Edinson Cavani to Stamford Bridge.

New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini wants to land Lewandowski as they also face up to defeat in the race for Napoli ace Cavani. Recent reports suggest the Citizens have spoken to Lewandowski's agent and were willing to make him one of the Premier League's best-paid players.

A free transfer next summer now appears to be the most likely outcome for Lewandowski.
