Arsenal are ready for another La Liga raid as they weigh up a £10million move for exciting Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

According to the Daily Mail, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been greatly impressed with the 23-year-old this season and is leading the race to recruit him.

Illarramendi is currently on international duty with the Spain Under-21s in Israel and is expected to be in the starting line up for the UEFA Euro U21 championships final against Italy on Tuesday evening.

£10million is the fee quoted in the report that should land the defensive midfielder and Arsenal are ready to pay it.

Despite the success of using Mikel Arteta this season, Wenger has struggled to replace Alex Song in the midfield position in front of the defence and Illarramendi would be an ideal candidate for that role.

He has been outstanding for Real Sociedad this season as they secured fourth spot in La Liga and a Champions League qualification round spot.

Illarramendi is not the only La Liga player linked with Arsenal, as the Gunners are reportedly close to signing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Were the Spain U21 international to move to Emirates Stadium, he would join a number of compatriots in Santi Cazorla, Arteta and Nacho Monreal.
