Real Madrid will seek to end speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move away from the Bernabeu by offering the Portugal international a world record five-year deal worth €155m, according to Goal.com.
The 28-year-old's representatives are in 'advanced' talks with Real Madrid regarding a contract that would make Ronaldo the world's highest-paid player.
Ronaldo's current €10m annual net salary will be bumped up to €15m per season. But changes to Spanish tax regulations mean Madrid will now be forced to stump up €31m a year in order to meet Ronaldo's €15m net wage demands.
That's because the so-called 'Beckham rule' that allowed foreigners living in Spain for less than 10 years and earning over €120,000-a-year to pay a lower 23% tax rate has been scrapped. In its place is a new 52% tax bracket for high earners like Ronaldo.
Getting the former-United star to commit to the club long-term is now Madrid's primary concern this summer, especially in the wake of interest from Manchester United.
Having missed out on Neymar, the Spanish giants want to make sure Ronaldo puts pen to paper.
Gareth Bale remains a target, but there's a feeling that the Welshman is not prepared to leave Spurs this summer.
Ronaldo sparked renewed speculation over his future earlier this week when he issued a single line statement: "All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false."
But before that statement on social media, Ronaldo had told reporters following Portugal's 1-0 win over Russia that he expects an agreement to be reached over a new contract.
And the latest report now claims Madrid are ready to offer their star player a bigger contract than Lionel Messi's at Barcelona - making him the highest paid player in the world.
A potential stumbling block remains image rights. Ronaldo currently takes a 60 per cent share, whereas Messi has 100 per cent at the Nou Camp but Madrid hope this issue can be resolved.
