Judd Trump suffered a shock first-round defeat to Li Hang after losing 5-2 in China's Wuxi Classic.
The world number three lost to Li Hang, who only recently returned to the professional ranks after a run to the final of last season's third Asian Players Tour Championship event.
Li took a deserved 3-0 lead with breaks of 62, 54 and 62 and although the Brit pulled two frames back, the Chinese player won the final two.
The 22-year old from China has previously produced shock wins beating Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott in 2011.
Mark Allen surprisingly followed Trump out of the competition when the Northern Irishman lost to Englishman Peter Lines.
Allen led 3-2 and 4-3 but Lines produced an impressive comeback to win 5-4.
Six-time world champion Steve Davis was thrashed 5-1 by Andrew Higginson. Last year Davis beat Higginson 5-0 but the 55-year old was comfortably beaten as he could only record a high break of 45.
Peter Ebdon, who was the 2002 world champion, was another casualty in the first round after he lost 5-3 to Xiao Guodong.
World number one Neil Robertson came from 2-0 down against Zhu Yinghui to win 5-2. Zhu Yinghui had knocked out nine-time ladies' world champion Reanne Evans and started well again but the Australian responded with breaks of 58, 69 and 83.
