Michael Vaughan hits back at Micky Arthur claims

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has responded to the assertion of Australia coach Micky Arthur that his side posses the best bowling attack in world cricket.

England are the favourites to secure a third successive Ashes triumph when the Test series begins next month, with Australia bringing an inexperienced squad to face Alastair Cook's world No.2 ranked side.

Australia have included only five players in their 16-man squad to have played an Ashes match away from home, while they arrive in England having suffered a humiliating series whitewash at the hands of India.

Arthur, however, is bullish ahead of the eagerly-anticipated Ashes series, and believes his crop of players should not be underestimated, particularly given the strength of their bowling ranks.

He told Test Match Special: "I honestly believe we can win the Ashes - we have the best all-round bowling attack in world cricket."

Vaughan, however, has scoffed at suggestions Australia have the most fearsome attack in Test cricket, and ranks them only in fourth place - behind South Africa, England and Pakistan.

He tweeted: "Best bowling attacks in the world in Test Cricket...1.South Africa 2.England 3.Pakistan 4.Australia 5.India 6.NZ. 7.WI 8.Bang #justsaying."

The first Ashes Test begins at Trent Bridge on July 10, before further matches at Lord's, Old Trafford, Durham and The Oval.
