Inter Milan buy out €30m Arsenal target's contract

Arsenal and Barcelona's hopes of signing Samir Handanovic have been dealt a huge blow, after Inter Milan bought out the remainder of his contract from Udinese.

TalkSPORT reports how the 25-year-old goalkeeper had been heavily linked with a move away from San Siro this summer, with a host of top European clubs said to be interested in the Slovenia international's signature.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is believed to have been monitoring Handanovic's situation in Italy, as he weighed up a bid to bring him to the Emirates Stadium, to add competition for the likes of Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski next season.

However, Arsenal faced fierce competition to secure the Inter star's services, with Barcelona also eyeing Handanovic as a long-term successor to Victor Valdes at Camp Nou.

Handanovic first moved to Milan from Udinese in 2012, as part of a co-ownership agreement. But, following the Nerazzurri's £9.4million payment to their Serie 'A' counterparts, they now possess full control of the player.

A €30million valuation - or £25.7million in English currency - has been mooted as the fee needed to convince Inter Milan to sell, which is more likely to deter Arsenal than Barcelona, given their historically frugal approach in the transfer market.
