Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their summer pursuit of Brazilian midfielder Hernanes, after Lazio president Claudio Lotito said that he will not be sold this summer.

TalkSPORT reports how the 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Italy in recent months, with suggestions he could be on his way to the Premier League.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has been credited with an interest in bringing the South American star to White Hart Lane, but faced competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club's sporting chief Leonardo was recently spotted in Brazil at the Confederations Cup, where he was rumoured to be making a personal check on Hernanes, ahead of PSG's proposed bid to lure him to Parc des Princes.

However, both PSG and Tottenham's hopes of signing the Brazil international now look to be dead and buried, following Lotito's latest media comments.

"It is nice to know that Hernanes is liked, but we like him more than anybody else," he said. "We have no intention of selling him.

"Hernanes can not be touched because he is an integral part of the project here."
