Tottenham are interested in Aston Villa's striker Christian Benteke and are willing to offer £20 million and Emmanuel Adebayor to prize him away from Villa Park, according to the Daily Star.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has made it public knowledge that his main transfer target this summer is a striker as he currently only has two at the club in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Despite being heavily interested in Leandro Damaio for the last few seasons, it now looks like his attentions have turned to Villa's deadly striker Christian Benteke.
The Belgium striker signed for Villa back in the summer and has been sensational in his debut season in England netting 19 goals for the Premier League side and because of his form, he has been highly wanted, especially by Tottenham.
It is reported that Tottenham are willing to spend up to £20million for Benteke and if that isn't enough, they will also throw in a player to make the deal more agreeable.
It is thought that Spurs will offer £20m plus Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor in order to sign the Belgium international.
Benteke has admitted that he is happy to stay at Aston Villa for another season, but he has also revealed his desire to play in the Champions League at some point in his career.
The 22-year-old is also wanted by Tottenham's rivals Arsenal, but their attentions are mainly focused on Gonzalo Higuain at the moment.
A close source to Spurs has been recently talking about the Benteke situation and revealed that Benteke is one of the players they are after.
The source told reporters: “Benteke is one of the players they want.
“Sadly, no one has come in for Adebayor so at the moment so it must be straight cash.
“There’s been talk of Defoe going but why would a club sell a player who can guarantee 15 goals in a season?”
