The first morning at Wimbledon has not been short of drama. Women's fifth seed Sara Errani has made a shock exit while British trio Kyle Edmund, Elena Baltacha, and Sam Murray have already come and gone.
Roger Federer was in scintillating form on the first game on centre court as he dispatched Romanian world number 48 Victor Hanescu 6-3 6-2 6-0 in just 69 minutes.
The world number three produced just six unforced errors as he kicked-off his SW19 campaign in style - the 31-year-old looking for his record eighth Wimbledon title.
Tenth seed Marin Cilic did not need much longer to dispose of Marcos Baghdatis, winning 6-3 6-4 6-4. The Croatian is on good form after reaching the final at Queen's last week, and is amongst the dark horses for a long run in the competition.
The 24-year-old has never before been beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon, but has previously reached a Grand Slam semi-final in Australia.
Fellow seeds Benoit Paire and Jerzy Janowicz have also progressed to round two, the latter beating British wildcard Edmund in straight sets.
It wasn't all bad for the 18-year-old from Beverley however, as he showed flashes of potential in his 6-2 6-2 6-4 loss.
One seed has fallen in the men's draw: Fabio Fognini has been beaten 6-7 7-5 6-3 6-2 by former world number eight Jurgen Melzer.
Errani has been by far the biggest casualty of Wimbledon so far. She was shocked 6-3 6-2 by 19-year-old Peuto Rican Monica Puig, who is ranked 443 in the world.
Baltacha, 29, battled hard on her return from injury but was eventually ousted by Flavia Pennetta. The 31-year-old Italian may be ranked just 158 in the world, but the former number ten rank has twice before reached the fourth round at Wimbledon.
Another British entry, 25-year-old Sam Murray, making her Wimbledon debut, has also gone - beaten 6-3 6-4 by another Italian, 21-year-old Camila Giorgi.
Second seed Victoria Azarenka and twelfth seed Ana Ivanovic are both safely through.
