The Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Monday night proved that stellar goaltending can win championships.
Corey Crawford fought back when they played the Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. Therefore, Crawford is the reason the Blackhawks were able to hang on for the victory, that’s it, pure and simple.
The Bruins had all the momentum. They played physically, and peppered Crawford with over 20 shots through the first two periods. They played the best they could, and pushed the Blackhawks to their limit.
However, the victory proves that anything can happen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Blackhawks didn’t seem shaken going into TD Garden at all. The players kept their composure, and were able to shock the Bruins late in the game.
In the end, unbelievable goaltending, stellar defence and an unlikely hero in David Bolland and Bryan Bickell gave the Chicago Blackhawks the victory. This win for the team is the second Stanley Cup Championship victory in four years.
Eight of the players on the team’s roster already had Stanley Cup rings. I believe that experience helped the Blackhawks the most. Teows and Kane used their speed to counteract the Bruins physicality in this game. The coaching staff did a fantastic job matching line-ups.
I know this was a team effort by the Blackhawks, but the real hero in this whole series is the goaltender Crawford. He was the standout performer along with Mayers and Handzus. I believe this has been one of the most exciting playoffs ever, and I can’t wait to see what happens next season.
