Confederations Cup preview: Brazil vs Uruguay

Two South American powerhouses come head-to-head in the first semi-final of the Confederations Cup in a match highly anticipated to be a thriller.

The match is set to take place this Wednesday and expect nothing short of brilliance.

Both teams have already set the tournament alight with plenty of goals and silky skills from the likes of Barcelona new boy Neymar and wantaway Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.

Twenty goals have already been netted in the group stages alone and the two players mentioned have already grabbed themselves three a piece and will hardly be looking to stop there.

The hosts of this year’s FIFA Confederations Cup - Brazil - are looking for a fourth consecutive title and despite them being favourites to win this match they are behind world champions Spain with the bookies to grab this year’s trophy.

Uruguay will not shy away from the fact they haven’t beaten there opponent’s in question since 1950 but they have won four of their last five international matches - and with talisman Suarez and Edinson Cavani anything is possible.

If Uruguay are to pull off a shock defeat against the hosts they will be relying heavily on the likes of Diego Forlan, Cavani and Suarez - who will all prove a stern test for Brazil’s back four.

However, Brazil kept two cleansheets in the group stages and conceded just two goals in the process; they will also be increasingly confident of continuing this impressive record after Chelsea’s David Luiz has been cleared to play following a leg injury.

Prediction: Although I do believe Uruguay’s attractive style will trouble the Brazil back-line I can still vision another cleansheet on the cards. And I also can’t see Neymar’s impressive goalscoring in this tournament coming to a haul in this fixture.

Therefore, I’m going with 2-0 to the Samba Boys in yellow with Neymar and Fred on the scoresheet.
