Defending champion Roger Federer has been reprimanded by Wimbledon officials and told he must change his shoes for his second round match on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Mail, the bright orange soles on Federer’s footwear have contravened All England Club clothing rules.

The Swiss world number three dazzled with his tennis as well as his loud footwear in his first round demolition of Romania’s Victor Hanescu in straight sets.

He will have to make some changes when he steps onto the court for his second round match with Sergiy Stakhovsky in the last game on Centre Court on Wednesday.

Wimbledon have strict rules concerning what players can be decked out in, which basically state that all items of clothing must be almost completely white.

Federer, the seven-time champion at Wimbledon, has also caused a stir in recent years with his choice of pre-match clothing – the number three seed has taken to wearing sporty blazers to walk out on to court.

The report claims a number of other players have been pulled up on their colourful choice of trainers and officials in SW19 have been slapping wrists galore.
