Football News

Maria Sharapova has shown that tennis is not the only sport she is adept at, with the Russian star displaying some impressive skills with a football as she prepares to face Michelle Larcher de Brito at Wimbledon.

Sharapova suffered a scare in her first round win against Melanie Oudin - losing the second set 6-1 to the world No.78 - but showed no ill effects from the tight opening encounter when out on the practice courts.

The 26-year-old faces Larcher de Brito on Court No.2 on Wednesday, and appears in fine fettle if her exploits with a football are anything to go by.

Sharapova was spotted playing some keepie-uppies with her team in preparation of the meeting with Larcher de Brito, and the world No.3 showed decent ability to keep the ball in the air.

Sharapova's exploits are similar to those of British No.1 Andy Murray, who plays football tennis doubles during his preparations for major tournaments.
