Southampton have signed Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren in a four-year contract, reports SkySports.
Lyon defender Lovren's recent display led to interest from both Chelsea and Barcelona.
Southampton landing the centre-back has come as a surprise, but it shows the hard work done by the management team and the attraction of Premier League.
Lovren possesses playing experience in the Champions League and Europa League, and him choosing Southampton will be a major boost to one of the past power houses in English football.
The Croatian international is a regular for the national side and his signing is expected to raise the bar at St Mary's.
In Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw, the Saints possess exciting wing-backs with huge potential in their ranks and the addition of Lovren is expected to bring stability to the side as well.
Last season's recruits Gaston Ramirez and Jay Rodriguez are expected to carry them to greater heights and secure their Premier League status once again.
This season they are trying to build on from the progress they made already and in Lovren they have signed a gem which will lift them to mid table status for sure.
Saints coach Mauricio Pochettino believes that he is a very good player and has good potential. The 23-year-old is yet to enter his peak footballing years, and many thinks that he has the potential to develop into an outstanding centre-back.
Signing Lovren is a massive coup for the south Coast team and Premier League fans will get to witness a gem of a defender next season.
