Nerlens Noel has said that he will make the teams that ignored him the NBA draft last night pay for not signing him.
Noel was expected to be one of the first-draft picks, but ended up being picked sixth by the New Orleans Pelicans.
“Oh yeah, I’ll make them pay,” Noel said to USA Today. “I’m just happy to be with the Pelicans.”
Despite an injury to his anterior cruciate-ligament last season, the 19-year-old centre was projected to be amongst the favourites to be a first-pick, but five teams opted to sign other players before Noel was picked.
It comes as a massive surprise after Noel’s athleticism and power had made him one of the hottest-properties in basketball.
But, if Noel can return to the form he was showing before his injury, and use this snubbing by certain teams as motivation, he could be a superb signing for the Pelicans and prove to be a real asset to the team.
Noel had been heavily linked with a move to the Cleveland Cavaliers before the draft, but they chose to sign Anthony Bennett ahead of him.
