After Manchester United had a bid rejected by Everton for left-back Leighton Baines, I take a look at what a potential move may mean for Patrice Evra and United's other players vying for that position.
It was reported on Thursday that Manchester United had made a bid of around £10million for Everton's Baines and it is expected David Moyes will go in with a second bid after the original offer was rejected.
If a move does go through then Evra may well be sold, with Monaco reportedly after the French left-back.
Moyes would not be bringing Baines in to sit on the bench so an exit for Evra looks likely.
Then you have got United's younger left-backs, Alex Buttner and Fabio.
Sir Alex Ferguson signed Buttner as an understudy to Evra last summer and as an eventual replacement but if Baines does come in then Buttner may have to wait three or four years before he will get his chance.
Buttner may have to consider going out on loan to a Premier League team to get regular football and to hope to show Moyes what he can do or he could stay and be Baines' understudy.
One of United's other left-backs is Fabio. The Brazilian spent last season on loan at QPR where he got some game time under his belt but he really needs to play every week as well.
If Buttner stays then Fabio could be the one heading out on loan but he could just as easily stay and get cup matches.
I reckon that Evra will be sold though, not because he is not good enough but because he will want to play every week.
He has been outstanding for Manchester United for several seasons, has plenty of winners medals and will be keen to join former side Monaco who building a potential Champions League winning team.
Moyes officially begins work at Old Trafford on July 1 and hopes to have Baines signed in time for their pre-season tour.
