Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes striker Luis Suarez may yet decide to turn down Real Madrid and stay at Anfield.

Suarez has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool after revealing he was finding life difficult in the Premier League.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted Liverpool are in total control of the Uruguay international’s future and would do everything they could to keep him.

Despite Rodgers’ assertions, Suarez’s interviews while away on international duty have led many to expect him to switch clubs this summer.

However, Carragher does not think it is that straightforward and insisted it is quite possible that Liverpool will hang onto the 26-year-old.

“I think he might stay. Some big clubs will be interested in him because he is such a top player and that is something we have to accept,” he said.

“We can’t complain about that, we bought him off Ajax. He signed a contract last summer and he has a few years left and hopefully we can keep him.”

Carragher also believes Suarez was the Premier League’s best player last season, despite finishing second in the Golden Boot race and Liverpool finishing outside of the Champions League places once again.

“He is very important. He was probably the best player in the Premier League last season and you want to be keeping your best players, which is what he is,” he added.

Liverpool have been recruiting early in the summer and will be well covered, in numbers if not quality, should Suarez leave.

Signing Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho last January has already shown results, while adding Iago Aspas this summer, as well as welcoming back Fabio Borini from long-term injury, means Liverpool will have attacking options.
