As Barcelona confirmed the signing of Neymar, many doubted whether he could perform at the top level.
He had earned a reputation for scoring spectacular goals in Brazil but, the level of competition in Brazil's top league is nothing compared to the strength of Europe's best.
The Confederations Cup was a chance to prove to the world that he could not only compete against the best players in the world, but that he could also stand out amongst them.
He took that chance with some style.
Brazil went on to humiliate the best team the international game has seen for decades, Spain, as they beat them 3-0 in the final at the Maracana, and Neymar was key to their success.
He started the tournament with a sumptuous volley against Japan in the opening game. And he didn't stop there, he then scored a magnificent free-kick against Italy and provided a beautiful assist against Mexico, showcasing his supreme dribbling skills in the process.
He rounded off the tournament striking a fiercely hit shot into the top corner against World and European Champions Spain.
Neymar was crowned the best player of the Confederations Cup, outshining Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta in the process.
Along with the rest of the Brazilian team, Neymar was clearly inspired by the support of the home fans.
Barcelona fans should take note for next season.
If Neymar can produce this kind of quality in the next campaign, the potential partnership of himself and one of the greatest players ever, Lionel Mess, is a mouth watering prospect to say the least.
