Manchester United transfer target Kevin Strootman has been told by PSV officials that he will stay with the club for at least another year.
The Premier League giants have been chasing the Dutch international for a number of months, with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson failing in a bid to bring the 23-year-old to Old Trafford in January.
But, on the advice of the legendary Scot, new manager David Moyes has decided to continue tracking the movements of the midfielder, but his efforts may be in vain, as PSV want Strootman to stay at the club next season.
Strootman's agent admitted earlier this month that a move to the Premier League would be the ideal move for his client, but it seems that he will have to wait another season to obtain his dream move.
PSV technical director Marcel Brands looks set to quash any potential deal because he feels that the midfielder still has unfinished business with the Eredivisie side.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Brands said: "Strootman we do not want to lose. He knows himself he will stay one more year at PSV."
And it is clear to see why Brands and everyone else at PSV want to keep the midfielder. He made 46 appearances for PSV last season, scoring on seven occasions. He has been likened to former Manchester United great Roy Keane, and would be a strong signing should Moyes continue to pursue the Dutch international.
But with PSV so keen on keeping their most profitable asset, it looks like Moyes may have to wait until the end of next season to get his man.
