Jack Wilshere has joked that he will put up pictures of Gonzalo Higuain's girlfriend if the Real Madrid player joins Arsenal this summer.

Higauin has been linked with a move to Arsenal for some time, with his brother and agent revealing last week that a deal was 'close'.

With Juventus snapping up Carlos Tevez, Arsenal appear to be in the driving seat for his signature, and are reportedly close to sealing a £25 million move for the striker.

Wilshere says that although he has never come up against Higuain on the pitch he is aware of his quality - and added that if he joins the Arsenal players will put up a picture of his girlfriend, actress Soledad Fandino, in the drssing room.

Asked in an Interview with ESPN about Higuain, Wilshere said: "I've never played against him, but anyone who plays for Real Madrid and Argentina has to be quality."

He then added when shown a picture of Fandino: "That's the sort of picture that will go right up on the bulletin board in the changing room!

"Some of the lads like to put up photos of other players' wives and girlfriends and have a bit of banter."

Wilshere returned from a series of injuries during the 2011/12 campaign to help Arsenal claim 4th ahead of rivals Tottenham last term.

The young midfielder admitted at the end of last season that 4th wasn't good enough for a club like Arsenal, and says the attempts to land Higuain show they are aiming higher.

"You look at the type of players like Higuain we're trying to bring in and you've got to be encouraged," he said.

"I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team but to add to the squad. We need our squad to be as deep as United's and City's.

"They can change their back four completely and still win. There's no way United would have won the Premier League trophy with 18 players."
