Arsenal are preparing a final offer for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
The Times claims Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is ready to offer £22million for the Argentine international, and hopes to land the player before pre-season training begins on Thursday.
Wenger has been courting the former River Plate starlet’s signature for some time, whilst midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted he would love to play alongside the 25-year-old at the Emirates Stadium.
Higuain moved to the Santiago Bernabeu midway through the 2006/07 campaign, and after initially failing to make a major impact, hit double figures in five consecutive La Liga seasons.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have struggled in-front of goal in the absence of Robin Van Persie. His exit last summer put pressure on Olivier Giroud, with no other recognised central striker available to Wenger.
Yaya Sanogo has already been drafted in this summer but is seen as one for the future, and Higuain would certainly give the Gunners added impetus in-front of goal.
