according to the ExpressStoke City are considering a move for ex-Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne, .
Mancienne joined Bundesliga side Hamburg back in 2011 on a four-year deal, even though he still had two years left on his Chelsea contract. He only made four appearances for Chelsea as far back as 2009 before he began two loan spells, the earliest at QPR, where he made 58 appearances whilst the club were in the Championship - and was runner-up for the Fans' Young Player of the Year award that season.
He then signed a contract extension at Chelsea and remained on loan at QPR for the 2007/08 season. He went back to Chelsea until October 2008 but with no regular opportunities at Stamford Bridge he again headed out on loan, this time at Wolves, where he made 56 appearances.
At Wolves he played in defence and centre midfield, helping the club survive relegation that season.
He was injured the following season, which ruled him out for three months - and he returned for the final six games of the season, helping Wolves again to avoid the drop.
The 25-year-old then signed for Hamburg for a fee in the range of £1m, where he was re-united with Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen.
The former England Under-21 international is hoping to catch Roy Hodgson's eye ahead of next year's World Cup, so a move to the Premier League would allow him the attention he is craving.
Stoke have just signed PSV left-back Erik Pieters, and have also been linked with Manchester City's Joleon Lescott and Blackburn's Martin Olsson.
