Chelsea have been told they must pay £10million if they want to land Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy and they may be about to do just that.

According to the Daily Mail, new Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho is keen to recruit some quality back-up for number one Petr Cech and feels England international Ruddy is the best man for the job.

Cech’s understudies form the past few season, Ross Turnbull and Henrique Hilario, are both out of contract and Mourinho wants them replaced.

Chelsea had a £5million bid for the 26-year-old but it was quickly knocked back by the Canaries and the Blues were told to double it.

Promising Belgium international Thibuat Courtois will be sent out on loan for another season at Atletico Madrid, he is likely unwilling to be Cech’s understudy with the World Cup in Brazil next season.

Chelsea may well be keen to recruit Ruddy, but he could well have the same misgivings as Courtois with him fighting for a spot in the England squad, should they qualify.
