Arsenal will have to fight off interest from Inter Milan if they want to sign highly rated France international Etienne Capoue.

According to talkSPORT, Arsene Wenger is keen on recruiting a defensively minded midfielder and has Capoue down as one of his possible targets.

However, the Gunners manager now has some serious competition to sign the France international from the Serie A side.

Arsenal are expected to spend an unprecedented amount on transfer fees this summer, though they reportedly had a bid for Capoue turned down by Toulouse in January.

Interest in Capoue may well now increase after Arsenal reportedly had a bid turned down for another defensive midfielder this week, Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender.

Any move for Capoue will have more competition now, as the report claims Inter Milan’s new manager Walter Mazzarri is ready overhaul the squad and see Capoue as the perfect candidate to add some physical presence to the midfield.

Capoue and Bender are not the only two holding midfielders linked with Arsenal bids, as Everton star Marouane Fellaini has been tipped for a move to Emirates Stadium.
