Released Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz is set to join Italian Serie A side Bologna after rejecting offers from Germany and Turkey.
Manchester City released him as a free agent at the end of his contract earlier this summer.
The Paraguay international, who joined Manchester City from Blackburn Rovers in 2009, had spend his last two seasons on loan at La Liga clubs Malaga and Real Betis.
The striker, who played for Bayern Munich earlier in his career career, fell out of favour at the Etihad Stadium after a series of high-profile arrivals.
He only made 20 Premier League appearances during his four-year spell with the 2012 champions.
But the 31-year-old, who has 26 goals in 92 appearances for his country, is now inching closer towards Italian Serie A club, Bologna.
"We are one step away from a positive solution," Santa Cruz told Corriere dello Sport. "I think the talks with Bologna will have a positive ending. I have every confidence there will be no major problems.
"I have already told the German club (that were interested) that my first choice is Bologna.
"I like their offer and the economic aspect is not essential for me. I'm more interested in the way of life for me and my family, and Bologna is a beautiful city.
"I've also had an offer from Turkey, but I have chosen Italy and I hope a deal will be closed in the next few hours."
