Sunderland have filled the void left by Simon Mignolet by completing the signing of Arsenal's third choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
Mignolet's move to Liverpool had left the Black Cats manager Paolo Di Canio with good amount of money for a complete overhaul for his squad.
He seems to have a plan to replace the entire spine of his squad and the Sunderland scouts were having the busiest days in summer so far.
They were linked to Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Tom Huddlestone among many other stars. Sunderland have already roped in quite a number of free agents to their roster as well.
Signing the talented Gunner is part of the overhaul he is planning and the keeper is expected to provide a battle for the number one spot.
Mannone has just made 23 appearance for Arsenal so far in his career. This includes some fantastic performances in high-profile matches as well.
His outstanding performances came against the likes of Stoke City, Liverpool and Manchester City in Arsenal's Premier League outings.
This seems to have increased his stock and the reason behind Sunderland's acquisition of the Italian custodian. Those performances were analysed thoroughly and their verdict was he is ready for Premier League.
His performances during loan spells at Barnsley and Hull City in npower Championship also helped him to secure a move to the Premier League club.
Mannone joins the Black Cats on a two-year deal for an undisclosed free. He is expected to challenge Kieran Westwood for the goalkeeping spot.
With a complete overhaul in Sunderland set up, one cannot rule out the possibilities of further additions as well.
