Aaron Hernandez was passed up by both the Cincinnati Bengals and the Indianapolis Colts in the 2010 NFL Draft.

The University of Florida college star was expected to go in the second round that year, but was picked up in the fourth-round by the New England Patriots after being passed by a number of teams.

That included the Bengals, with owner and general manager Mike Brown confirming they decided to stay away from the player.

"That one is no secret. We just stayed away. We didn't question the playing ability. But we went for (Jermaine) Gresham,” he told Fox Sports Ohio.

Former Colts general manager Bill Polian has also revealed that the AFC powerhouse dismissed the idea of bringing the 23-year-old to the Lucas Oil Stadium, despite the need for a tight end at the time.

"There were questions there, which is why a guy of that talent lasted until the fourth round,” Polian told the Wall Street Journal.

"We were not in the Hernandez business. We never got that far in evaluating him.”

Hernandez was taken away from his home in handcuffs last Wednesday and subsequently released by the Patriots.

He has since been charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, and is being held without bail in the Bristol County House of Correction and Jail.
