Jerzy Janowicz secured a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals with a 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lukasz Kubot in the battle of the Poles.

The big-serving 22-year-old hammered down 30 aces on Court Number One, with the number 24 seed having too much power for his compatriot.

Kubot was the outsider from the off, but the world’s number 130 had his chances throughout the match, missing a number of break point chances.

Janowicz had no such problems, claiming a single break in each set. With huge power and unflinching nerve, the youngster showed he will be no pushover in the last four.

That should serve as a warning to British hope Andy Murray, who will go into the match after five gruelling sets and three-and-a-bit hours against Fernando Verdasco.

The Scot will certainly start as favourite in-front of his home crowd on Centre Court, but Janowicz has shown on a number of occasions in this tournament that he is one of the most dangerous men in tennis right now.

Kubot can certainly testify to that claim.
