Manchester United face a three-way fight to land Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia.
The Daily Star cite reports in Italy when claiming that the Red Devils have been tracking the £16million centre back for some time, but now face competition from other clubs.
Indeed, both Napoli and Juventus are eager to keep the 25-year-old in Serie ‘A’, having seen the player progress to become a regular at the San Siro following his move from Genoa in 2010.
Both clubs are eager to bolster their defensive ranks, but new Manchester United boss David Moyes is also keen, and interested in following up the pursuit of Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Red Devils have already added one defender to their ranks this summer, with Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela moving to Old Trafford for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.5million.
And, Ranocchia would provide another option at the heart of the Manchester United defence, offering competition to Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
