Chelsea are ready to increase their bid for Daniele de Rossi by 50 per cent as manager Jose Mourinho is so desperate to land him.

Reports this week claimed Manchester City were ready to rival the Stamford Bridge club fro the AS Roma stalwart, though the Express now claim Manuel Pellegrini is looking elsewhere and leaving the way clear for Chelsea.

A price of £10million was mooted but the report suggests this was insufficient to convince the Giallorossi to let their vice-captain leave.

Mourinho is so keen to bring the holding midfielder to Stamford Bridge that he is willing to up that amount to £15million.

De Rossi has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, though he has always voiced is commitment to his boyhood club.

He is in his pride at 29 years old and has proved his versatility for playing in defence as well as midfield during Euro 2012 and the recent Confederations Cup clash with Spain.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly handed Mourinho a £100million summer transfer kitty and De Rossi is expected to be one of a number of purchases.

The Blues may need extra cover in front of the defence as John Obi Mikel has today been linked with a move away from the Londoners.
