Arsenal are being linked with a shock move for QPR defender Stephane Mbia.

The Daily Star claims Gunners chief Arsene Wenger heads a list of managers interested in the 27-year-old, who will cost in the region of £4million.

Aston Villa and Swansea City are also interested in the Cameroon international, according to the report, with the Hoops ready to listen to offers following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Harry Redknapp is looking to trim the wage bill at Loftus Road, and Mbia is one of the club’s top earners following a move from Marseille last summer.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are preparing for another season in the Champions League after securing a top four finish under pressure last term.

The Gunners aren’t flush with senior options in defence however, with Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny available to Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.

Mbia would add to that list, but isn't a signing to excite the Arsenal fans as they await news on Gonzalo Higuain's proposed transfer.
