England winger Chris Ashton has paid tribute to international teammate Alex Corbisero following the British & Irish Lions’ series victory in Australia.

Corbisero was instrumental in the decisive third test on Saturday, scrummaging the Wallabies into submission with a dominant prop performance.

The new Northampton Saint also made the early breakthrough with a second minute try, and Ashton has lauded the 24-year-old as ‘a superhero’.

Ashton was also full of praise for the team effort on the tour down under, passing on his congratulations to all players following the emphatic 41-16 victory at the ANZ Stadium.

“No wonder he likes Superheros and stuff because he is one, well done Alex Corbisiero and ALL the Lions,” Ashton wrote on his official Facebook page.

Wasps winger Christian Wade, who joined up with the party and played in the tour match against the ACT Brumbies, also took to Facebook to celebrate the victory.

The highly-rated 22-year-old described the series victory as ‘unbelievable’, and admitted the whole event had been an amazing experience.

He wrote on Facebook: “We won the series!!!! UNBELIEVEABLE! Sooo amazing maaan!!”

Both Ashton and Wade will not turn their attentions to the start of the Aviva Premiership season, with Saracens starting at London Irish and Wasps facing Harlequins at Twickenham on the opening weekend.
